Intro. The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program lets qualifying investors — and their spouse and unmarried children under 21 — pursue US permanent residence (a green card) by investing in a US business that creates jobs. It is one of the most document-heavy immigration paths, because you must prove both the amount of your investment and that every dollar was lawfully earned. Dr. EB-5 is QuickFiling's all-in-one EB-5 solution: an expert specialist first generates your complete, USCIS-ready petition package, then you polish and finalize it with built-in AI tools before download. This FAQ covers the essentials.

What is EB-5?

EB-5 is the fifth employment-based immigrant visa preference category. In exchange for a qualifying at-risk capital investment in a US commercial enterprise that creates at least 10 full-time US jobs, an investor can petition for a green card. The program was reauthorized and substantially rewritten by the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022 (RIA), which is the framework in effect today.

How much do I have to invest?

Investment location

Minimum capital

Standard (not in a targeted area)

$1,050,000

Targeted Employment Area (TEA) — rural or high-unemployment — or an infrastructure project

$800,000

These amounts are set by the RIA and are subject to scheduled inflation adjustments beginning in 2027, so always confirm the current figure before you file. Your investment must be "at risk" and generally must be sustained for the required period.

What is the 10-job requirement?

Your investment must create or preserve at least 10 full-time jobs for qualifying US workers. In direct investments you generally must show 10 direct W-2 positions. Through a Regional Center, job creation can be counted indirectly using accepted economic models, which is one reason many investors choose that route.

Direct vs. Regional Center — and which form?

Route

Job counting

Petition form

Direct investment

Direct jobs only

Form I-526

Regional Center

Direct + indirect jobs

Form I-526E

How long does it take?

Processing times vary widely by route and project type. As of 2026, standalone I-526 and regional-center I-526E petitions have generally taken roughly two to three years, though rural TEA projects receive priority adjudication and a reserved visa set-aside that can move faster. After petition approval you either adjust status inside the US or consular-process abroad, followed later by Form I-829 to remove conditions on residence.
