What is "Well-positioned"

Well Positioned is the most time-consuming part of the PL. This is because you need to compile all your evidence in this section to demonstrate that you have already made a series of achievements in your Proposed Endeavor and that your expertise will allow you to continue making contributions in the Proposed Endeavor.

Evidences that support "Well-positioned"

  1. Education, Skills, and Knowledge

State the following

  1. Degree

  2. Job: offer letter, pay stub with high salary, key role position, n+ years of experience

  3. Certifications: Professional license, certifications; if there are too many pages, generally only the pages with your name and license/certificates are needed.

  4. Membership of professional association. Print the official website and the email that states your membership.

  5. Fundings, awards: National funding key contributor. Print the website of the funding and the proposal with your name on it.

  6. Publications and citations: only the first page of your paper.

Note: if there are too many pages, highlight your name and contact information if any.

2. Mr. XXX has been awarded Best Paper Award, multiple travel awards in Top Conferences

  1. Best paper: print the website of the conference/journal as well as the award notification

  2. Student travel awards: email notification or other proofs

  3. Scholarships: email notifications, news, etc.

  4. Research awards, Industry awards:certificates, news, email notifications

  5. Contest rankings, contest awards:certificates, news, email notifications

Note: if there are too many pages, highlight your name and contact information if any.

3 Mr. XXX’s research has been published in some of the top conferences and journals in the field

  1. Conference or journal ranking

i. Google Scholar ranking. It has limited categories and only gives you top 20 results.

ii. CORE rankings

iii. Rankings in your area

  1. Conference accepted rate:Eg. Googling ”accepted rate KDD 2024” gives you “The 29th ACM SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD 2023) (Acceptance Rate: 22.10%)”

4. Researchers from around the world have applied upon Mr. XXX’s research to further their own research

  2. Gift fundings: highlight your name if you are granted; mention your participation in the project in the letter of recommendation if your advisor is granted.

  3. Secure funding of start-up company: mention that in the letter of recommendation from the company

7. Mr. XXX’s research is highly novel and influential in the field

This part shows how others cite your work, which can be used to prove why your work is important

  1. Semantic Scholar does some citation analysis and summarizes how your work is cited (Background, method, etc.)

  1. scite.ai might be able to do similar things. Need to double check.

  2. Print the pages where your work is cited and highlight your name.

  3. Summarize it: XX from XX institution published a conference article titled “XXX”. In this article, the authors implemented Dr. XX’s work, XXX, and developed XX. (Add the impact of XX and how your work contributes to their impact).

  4. If you have too much published work,group your work into several topics and summarize your citations accordingly. Add a cover paragraph for each topic. For example:

Mr. XXX's research on XXX has resulted in XXX peer-reviewed journal and conference articles, with a total of XXX citations.

  2. Cite some paragraphs and numbers in the media report

10. Mr. XXX’s research and innovations are extensively adopted by users, researchers, and companies

  1. Consulting contract: print the contract and invitation/communication emails. Highlight your name.

  2. Code downloads/stars: # of code downloads or # of stars

  3. Techniques applied in industry

  • Media coverage: highlight the applications of your work and its influence.

  • Mention the applications and influence of your work in the letter of recommendation, such as # of new users, increased profit, etc.
